Union friends, let’s get out the vote! 🇺🇸

There are only 25 days left until the election on Nov. 5, and if you are a person who speaks truth to power, we need you.

In order to explain the very real stakes of this election for working people (overtime, anyone?), we are knocking on doors, making phone calls, even texting out the vote.

We’re offering virtual opportunities to get involved, like phone and text banks. Will you join us?

Working people hold the power in this election—one of the most consequential of our lifetimes. Volunteering to talk to your friends and neighbors could make all the difference because you are a trusted member of your community and your union.

Just take a look at some of our recent volunteer photos.

A montage of union volunteers getting out the vote.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again—the path to victory runs through America’s union halls. We know Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have working people’s backs—and in the final weeks of this campaign, we’re the boots on the ground who have theirs.

Thank you for showing up!

In Solidarity,

Team AFL-

☎️ EVENT: Labor for Kamala Harris

Union members know there has been no greater champion in the White House for working people than the Biden-Harris administration. That’s why last week, on behalf of the 60 unions and the more than 12.5 million workers we represent, the AFL-CIO Executive Council voted unanimously to endorse Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election.

We’ve been inspired by all the calls popping up to support Vice President Harris—and the labor movement understands that solidarity is how we win. Whether you’re in a union or a friend of labor, you’re invited to join labor leaders for an organizing call discussing what’s at stake in this election and to learn more about what’s next for Labor for Harris 2024.

Labor for Harris Organizing Call

When:  Wednesday, July 31, 2024, 8 p.m. ET
Where:  Zoom

RSVP

Vice President Harris has proven herself to be a tough and principled fighter for working people and a leader we can count on to deliver for us and uphold our values. Here’s a preview of what you need to know about her record as a champion for working people.

As vice president, Harris:

  • Played a critical role in rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, investing in good-paying union jobs, bringing manufacturing back to America, lowering prescription drug costs and raising wages.
  • Saved the pensions of more than 1 million union workers and retirees.
  • Led the administration’s efforts to increase access to affordable child care and expand the child tax credit.

As a U.S. senator, Kamala Harris:

  • Introduced the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights to guarantee domestic workers protections against harassment and discrimination, meal breaks, a guaranteed minimum wage and overtime pay.
  • Introduced legislation to extend overtime rights and guarantee new minimum wage rights to agricultural workers.
  • Strongly supported the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, a landmark bill to reform our broken labor laws that stack the deck against workers.
  • Walked the picket line in 2019 with the UAW at the General Motors facility near Reno, Nevada.

With Kamala Harris in the White House, together we’ll continue to build the labor movement, expand the middle class and make our economy work for all of us. Together, we can and will defeat Donald Trump, JD Vance and their anti-worker Project 2025 agenda in November.

Let’s kick things off on Wednesday. Sign up here to join the Labor for Harris Organizing Call.

Send a letter: Stop Senate Bill 181, the Pro-Corruption Bill!

Friend,

I wrote a letter for the Action Network letter campaign: Stop Senate Bill 181, the Pro-Corruption Bill!.

If you like government corruption, cronyism, and overt political influence in your state and local government agencies, then SB 181 is the bill for you! Senate Bill 181 purports to reform Louisiana’s civil service system, a system that protects public servants from political influence and allows them to do their jobs in the best interest of Louisiana’s citizens, not Louisiana’s political bosses. But every time the Louisiana legislature has made these types of "reforms" to the state's civil service system in the past they have resulted in more corruption, nepotism, and overt political influence in our government agencies. That’s why those “reforms” have been rolled back every time. Yet, again this year, the legislature is considering opening us up for just that sort of government abuse. The bill would give one person control over hiring and firing people at almost every level of government, with very little oversight, accountability, or transparency. A vote for SB181 is a vote for a return to Louisiana's dark history of corruption. Please vote No on SB181. Our public employees protect our families and provide much needed services to communities across Louisiana. Without the best employees filling these positions, we all receive worse services and lose out on a government that works for us. Please send a letter telling your legislator to vote no on SB 181!
