IP John Costa convened meetings of the ATU Transdev Joint Industry Council (JIC) and the Pacific Western Transit Joint Industry Council
Today, ATU International President John Costa convened meetings of the ATU Transdev Joint Industry Council (JIC) and the Pacific Western (PW) Transit Joint Industry Council (JIC). Costa commended the Local leaders for their leadership and talked about the importance and power of the JICs. International Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk also attended the meeting.
“The work of our JICs are instrumental in advancing the rights and welfare of our members at these private transit companies by leveraging the power of collective bargaining,” Costa told the attendees. “We are working to better coordinate our bargaining with our JICs so our contracts open up at the same time in order to put pressure on these private companies. Please know that your work together is critical in securing strong and fair contracts for our members as these companies continue to treat our members with disrespect.”
Other issues that were discussed included corporate updates on the Transdev and Pacific Western including the French Government’s possible sale of their shares of Transdev, the pending sale of PW Transit to Keolis, and other news on our employers, contract fights, and more.
The Transdev JIC members also conducted nominations for officers. All positions were unopposed. Local 1433-Phoenix, AZ, President/Business Agent Bob Bean was elected Chair, Local 732-Atlanta, GA, Financial-Secretary David Ward was elected Financial Secretary, Local 1722-Kelowna BC, President/Business Agent Al Peressini was elected First Board Member, Local 1778-Lansing, MI, President/Business Agent Maria Powell was elected Second Board Member, and Local 1564-Baton Rouge, LA, President/Business Agent George DeCuir was elected Third Board Member.
